My main emphasis today was getting at the BEST motivation. I don't discount the value of motivations like fear or guilt, but I understand Scripture to hold out joy as a superior motive.

In the sermon today, you talked about our motivation for obeying. When I think of tithing, I do that because I want to obey God, as His word requires that we do that. But, at the same time, I would be afraid not to tithe, for fear I might fall into some type of financial problems. I want to obey because I love Him, but sometimes I obey because of some type of fear. Is that motivation wrong?

look forward to your post Bro, God has a way of changing our plans. We work to come up with our plans but He alone is in control. I'm learning this so much...

Proverbs 16:9
(New American Standard Bible)

The mind of man plans his way,
But the LORD directs his steps

Prayer-the greatest privilege afforded a Christian. Used for:
.Intercessory prayer for brothers and sisters.
.Giving thanks for God's continous provisions and for our salvation.
.Sharing our deepest concerns w/Him.
.Asking forgiveness.
.Listening to Him.
.Lots more....

At first I thought...should prayer be asking God for something? But I guess asking for His wisdom, guidance, mercy...would be asking for something just not what I usually ask for.
